What happened
My Internship Scam Experience: A Lesson I Learned the Hard Way Like many students, I was excited to gain practical experience and build my career through an internship. I applied for a digital marketing internship, and within two days, I received a call from the company. The conversation sounded convincing. They explained the internship, the training process, career opportunities, and even assured me that I would receive a certificate and internship support. Everything seemed professional, except for one thing- they asked me to pay ₹4,000 for the training before I could begin. Believing their promises, I paid the amount. They collected all my personal details and assured me that I would soon receive further instructions. But after the payment, everything changed. No one contacted me. Their WhatsApp numbers disappeared, and I received no updates. I repeatedly sent emails asking for clarification. After several attempts, I finally received a call only because I complained. Instead of providing the internship they had promised, they simply added me to a few pre-recorded classes. Soon after, that contact number also blocked me. There was no internship, no mentorship, no guidance-nothing. Later, another number sent me a digital marketing internship certificate claiming I had completed a two-month internship. The certificate stated that I had successfully completed the program, even though I had never received the promised internship experience. This experience taught me an important lesson: Never pay money for an internship without thoroughly verifying the organization. Genuine companies usually pay interns or provide free training as part of the internship-they don't disappear after collecting fees. I'm sharing my story so that other students don't fall into the same trap. Always research the company, check reviews, verify its online presence, and think twice before making any payment. If my experience prevents even one student from being scammed, then sharing it is worth it.
